Assessment of pupils’ work is an integral part of the teaching and learning within the school. Assessment is in two categories: • Assessment for Learning • Assessment of Learning
A variety of strategies are used to assess children’s (a) formative (b) summative learning.
The progress of pupils is assessed through informal and formal methods including the professional judgement of the teacher assisted where relevant by the Classroom Assistant and / or other professional personnel.
Assessment in Foundation Stage takes place through formal and informal observations. In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils also complete standardised tests in Literacy, Spellings and Numeracy which are set during the month of May for Year 3 - Year 7 pupils.
Annual Reports and Parent/Teacher meetings are available to inform parents of their child’s progress and to offer support for parents in assisting with the child’s learning.
There is statutory assessment in the Cross Curricular Skills of Communication and Using Mathematics at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Parents are informed of the levels attained by their child in these areas.
Statutory Assessment in Using I.C.T will follow in due course and pupils’ attainment levels in this area will also be reported to parents.
All data collated about a child’s performance including that of self-assessment by the children is used to effectively track individual, class, year and whole school progress.
