Physical Education

Physical Education

In Hollybush we believe that a commitment to sporting excellence reflects a culture of high expectation and achievement in the school as a whole.

We aim to promote a positive attitude towards physical activity, to develop among pupils an enjoyment of physical exercise and create a link between healthy living and general fitness.

We also aim to enhance a child’s confidence and self-esteem by experiencing success in mastering a skill.

We have a structured programme of Physical Education experiences provided for our children in Hollybush as they progress through the school.

Through P1-3 we focus on fundamental movements and gymnastics to develop core physical literacy.

In years P4-7 the children receive more sport specific coaching in for example; gaelic football, hurling, athletics, cricket, judo and soccer.

In addition, Hollybush has representative teams in:

  • Soccer
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Gaelic Football
  • Hurling
  • Chess
  • Cross Country
  • Athletics
  • Rugby

We believe children aspire to be part of these teams and this fosters an identity with the school and encourages a positive ethos in the pupils.
