The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator within the school is Mrs Deborah White. Mrs White is assisted by the Learning Support Team.
However, the special educational needs of each child is the key responsibity of each teacher. Every teacher has been supported in building their capacity in identifying pupils who are experiencing difficulties at a very early stage. We have a comprehensive, robust and transparent process in place which enables us to meet the needs of these children and allow them to make sustained progress to realise their potential. Teachers receive continued professional development to assist them in identifying the barriers to children’s learning and how best to support the child in overcoming these barriers.
If a child has been identified as having Special Educational Needs, the parents will be informed immediately to discuss the child’s difficulties, whereupon an individual programme of work will be put in place. The requirements of the Code of Practice for children with special educational needs will be explained to parents and adhered to by the school staff.
The school will work in consutaltion with the Educational Psychologist and other outside agencies as is necessary in supporting the child to achieve his/her full potential.
